RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon men's soccer program (8-6-2, 4-4-0 MWC) earned a 4-0 win over the Lakeland University Muskies (11-6-4. 5-3-4 NACC) this Tuesday, October 27. Forward
Moaye Yao (Oregon, Wis., Vel Phillips Memorial HS) continued his scoring ways, putting two in for the Red Hawks.
The Red Hawks and the Muskies had an evenly-matched battle in the box score this week, save for the final scoreline. While the teams took an equivalent number of shots, and each team recorded three saves, Ripon's ability to put shots on target became the difference maker. Freshman
Max Grossman (Walnut Creek, Calif., Bentley HS) opened up scoring for the game in the first half, putting one in across the box off a pass from
Ivan Barrientos (Round Lake, Ill., Round Lake HS). Lakeland managed to outshoot Ripon in the first half, seven to four, but the second half opened with momentum thoroughly on the side of the Red Hawks.
Ripon opened up a scoring onslaught in the 60th minute, putting three in over just an eight minute span. After a Ripon shot deflected off the crossbar, senior
Thomas Geocaris (Green Bay, Wis., Notre Dame Academy) cleaned up the play to put Ripon up 2-0. Just five minutes later, midfielder
Ian Martinez (Chicago, Ill., Notre Dame College Prep) crossed a ball high to Yao, who headed it past the keeper for a 3-0 Ripon lead. Not
Seth Schroeder (Iron Ridge, Wis., Winnebago Lutheran Academy)satisified yet, Yao converted another shot on a breakaway with forward , putting in the pass for a 4-0 Red Hawks advantage.
Lakeland managed the final shot of the game, nearly putting one in as the final ten seconds of the game wound to an end, but keeper
Drew Seyfer (Thiensville, Wis., Homestead HS) managed the goal line save to preserve the shut out, sending Ripon into their final game of the regular season with a 4-0 win.
Ripon returns to action this Saturday, October 31, for the final game of the regular season against Lawrence University. The Red Hawks will vie for a tournament spot against a Viking squad with a 9-4-2 overall record and 4-4-0 MWC record, coming off a 7-0 win over Maranatha Baptist.
