OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The Red Hawks split competition this past weekend between UW-Oshkosh & UW-Platteville, highlighted by a record-breaking performance from sophomore Joley Berger (Dunbar, Wis., Pembine HS) and a number of standout finishes in Oshkosh.
At UW-Platteville on Friday, Berger delivered a historic run in the women's 5,000 meters, placing 10th overall with a time of 16:56.06. Her mark shattered the previous school record by more than 30 seconds, cementing one of the top distance performances in program history. Junior Gabby Allard (Appleton, Wis., Kimberly HS) followed as the next top finisher for the Red Hawks.
On the men's side, freshman Finn Lettau (Neenah, Wis., Neenah HS) led the way, with senior Jeremy Saloun (Portage, Wis., Portage HS) close behind as the team's top two finishers.
Back in Oshkosh, the weekend opened with the heptathlon, where senior Nicole Arnold (Hampton, N.Y., Granville HS) and freshman Ren Fritz (Bozeman, Mont., Gallatin HS) represented the Red Hawks in the multi-event competition. Both athletes saved their best for last, excelling in the 800 meters with Arnold taking first in 2:37.90 and Fritz placing second in 2:42.17. Arnold finished eighth overall with 3,284 points, while Fritz placed ninth with 2,995 points.
Saturday's competition saw the Red Hawks turn in several top finishes across the board. On the women's side, sophomore Tatom Trudell (Albany, Ore., South Albany HS) led the sprints with a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters and an impressive runner-up finish in the 200 meters. Junior Madelyn Wojak (Wautoma, Wis. Wautoma HS) added a strong second-place finish in the 400 meters, while senior Jenny Cortes (Round Lake, Ill., Round Lake HS) matched that effort with a second-place finish in the 800 meters.
In the field events, junior Sidney Hoffmann (Coloma, Wis., Westfield Area HS) recorded a fourth-place finish in the long jump, and junior Chloe Studinski (Oshkosh, Wis., Lourdes Academy) added a top-six finish in the high jump, contributing to a well-rounded day for the women's squad.
The men's team was highlighted by a first-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay, as sophomore Aiden Brobst (Freeport, Ill., Freeport HS), freshman Nate Johnson (Neenah, Wis., Neenah HS), freshman Michael Corral Rascon (Aurora, Colo., Vista Peak Preparatory), and junior Adisun Romprey (Pearson, Wis., Wabeno HS) combined for a winning time of 3:34.15. The Red Hawks also dominated the 800 meters, with Romprey leading the way with a second-place finish, followed closely by Brobst (fourth) and Corral Rascon (sixth), showcasing the team's depth in the middle-distance events.
Additional top performances included junior Zak Ladage's (Chatham, Ill., Lutheran High School) third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles and junior Braedy Picard's (Neenah, Wis., Xavier HS) seventh-place finish in the shot put, while freshman Tanner Paulsen (Wisconsin Dells, Wis., Wisconsin Dells HS) and Picard added top-10 finishes in the hammer throw.
The weekend as a whole showcased the Red Hawks' depth and momentum, combining a record-breaking performance on the distance side with multiple podium and top finishes in Oshkosh as the team continues to build into the outdoor season.
The Red Hawks turn their attention to the next outdoor meet at UW-La Crosse on April 18.
