Red Hawks Open Season with 3-0 Shutout at Wisconsin Lutheran

WAUWATOSA, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a strong performance Tuesday night, earning a 3-0 shutout victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College in a non-conference matchup at Warriors Soccer Field.

The Red Hawks controlled much of the action throughout the contest, finishing with an 18-10 advantage in shots and putting 10 attempts on goal. Ripon also held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Ripon struck first in the 20th minute when sophomore Easton Wolfram (Sun Prairie, Wis., Lakeside Lutheran HS) found the back of the net to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead. Senior Thomas Geocaris (Green Bay, Wis., Notre Dame Academy) was credited with the assist on the opening goal. Ripon maintained its advantage through the remainder of the first half, taking the one-goal lead into the break.

The Red Hawks continued to pressure the Warriors in the second half before doubling their lead in the 83rd minute. Sophomore Moaye Yao (Oregon, Wis., Vel Phillips Memorial HS) scored his first goal of the season, with junior Seth Schroeder (Iron Ridge, Wis., Winnebago Lutheran Academy) recording the assist. Schroeder then played a role in Ripon's third goal as well, assisting junior Isaac Kushner (Kenosha, Wis., Kenosha Tremper HS) on a goal with just nine seconds remaining in the contest to seal the 3-0 victory.

In goal, freshman Sebastian Covarrubias (Madison, Wis., Madison West HS) played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves to earn the shutout. Wisconsin Lutheran goalkeepers combined for seven saves.

With the win, Ripon opens the season 1-0-0.

The Red Hawks return to action on Friday, Sept 4, hosting Marian University at 7:30pm in their home opener.
