RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Elmhurst University Wednesday night at Hopp Stadium.
Ripon battled through a scoreless opening 18 minutes before Elmhurst found the back of the net in the 19th minute. The Bluejays added another goal in the 32nd minute to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
The Red Hawks created several opportunities throughout the contest, finishing with five total shots and four shots on goal. Senior Alyssa Klementzos (Salem, Wis., Westosha Central HS) led Ripon with three shots, all of which were on target. Sophomore Lizzy Schmitz (Sheboygan, Wis., Sheboygan Lutheran HS) added two shots, including one on goal, while junior Addison Misner (Richland, Mich., Gull Lake HS) recorded one shot.
Klementzos continued to challenge the Elmhurst defense in the second half, registering another shot on goal in the 83rd minute. Schmitz also put a late shot on target in the 89th minute, but Ripon was unable to find the back of the net.
Sophomore Kaitlan Adkins (Milwaukee, Wis., Brown Deer HS) started in goal for the Red Hawks and made six saves while allowing two goals in the opening half. Sophomore Kayla Klang (Reedsburg, Wis., Reedsburg Area HS) played the second half and recorded three saves.
Ripon's defense also limited opportunities at times, with the Red Hawks recording two corner kicks while committing just two fouls throughout the match.
Elmhurst added two goals in the second half, scoring in the 63rd and 70th minutes to complete the 4-0 result.
The Red Hawks will return to action Saturday, Sept 19, when they travel to Knox College for a 1:30pm matchup.
