GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Ripon College women's tennis team competed in a pair of Midwest Conference matches Saturday, traveling to Grinnell College and Cornell College.
The Red Hawks opened the day at Grinnell, falling 7-0. In doubles play, junior Josie Rondestvedt (Altoona, Wis., Altoona HS) and senior Jessi Griepentrog (Freedom, Wis., Fox Valley Lutheran HS) competed at No. 1 doubles, while juniors Isabella Engstrom (Ripon, Wis., Ripon HS) and Emily Bittinger (Shell Rock, Iowa, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) teamed up at No. 2. Seniors Ella Clark (Columbus, Wis., Columbus HS) and Isabella DeMeuse (Hartford, Wis., Hartford Union HS) rounded out the doubles lineup at No. 3.
In singles, Rondestvedt competed at No. 1, with Griepentrog at No. 2, Engstrom at No. 3, Bittinger at No. 4, freshman Juliet Barstow (Kennebunk, Me., Kennebunk HS) at No. 5 and Clark at No. 6. Griepentrog battled through a close match at No. 2 singles, falling 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
Ripon then traveled to Cornell College for its second conference match of the day, dropping another 7-0 decision. The Red Hawks' No. 3 doubles team of Clark and DeMeuse put together a competitive performance, falling 6-4.
Bittinger provided another close battle in singles, taking the opening set 6-4 at No. 4 before falling 3-6, 4-10 in a super tiebreak.
The Red Hawks will now turn their attention to the ITA Championships in Saint Peter, Minnesota, where individual competitors will compete Friday and Saturday, Sept 25-26.
