RIPON, Wis. -- It's all Red Hawks for the Midwest Conference (MWC) Men's Soccer Performer of the Week awards, as Ripon College's sophomore Moaye Yao (Oregon, Wis., Vel Phillips Memorial HS) and freshman Sebastian Covarubias (Madison, Wis., Madison West HS) were recognized by the conference Monday.

Yao was named the MWC Offensive Performer of the Week, while Covarubias earned Defensive Performer of the Week honors after helping Ripon go 2-0 in conference play last week.

Yao played a part in all four of Ripon's goals during the week, scoring three goals and adding one assist. The Red Hawks opened the week with a 3-1 victory over Beloit College, where Yao scored twice and assisted on Ripon's third goal.

Yao then provided the game-winning goal in Ripon's 1-0 victory over Grinnell College, scoring in the 72nd minute to hand the Pioneers their first loss of the season and snap their seven-game winning streak.

Through the Red Hawks' conference schedule, Yao ranks third in the MWC in points with 11 and fourth in goals with five. He also ranks 10th in shots with 11 and fifth in shots on goal with nine.

Covarubias was equally impactful defensively, anchoring the Red Hawk defense in goal throughout the two conference victories. He recorded three saves in the win over Beloit before making 11 saves in the shutout victory over Grinnell.

The 11-save performance against Grinnell helped Ripon secure the shutout while handing the Pioneers their first loss of the season. Covarubias currently ranks third in the conference with a 1.17 goals-against average and is tied for second with two shutouts.

Covarubias also ranks third in the MWC with 26 saves and a .788 save percentage, while his 4.33 saves per game average ranks fourth in the conference.

With Yao leading the attack and Covarubias protecting the net, the Red Hawks earned a pair of important conference victories and secured both MWC Performer of the Week honors.
