Sam Schroeder enters the 2017 season as Ripon's winningest coach in program history with a career record of 61-43-5 in six years with the team. His 61 career victories is the sixth-highest total in Midwest Conference history. Schroeder has coached 12 All-Conference selections and three All-Region players during his career with the Red Hawks.
In his first year as Head Coach at Ripon College, Schroeder helped the Red Hawks nearly double their win total (7) from the previous season (4), while narrowly missing the Midwest Conference Tournament with a 4-4-1 league record. He followed that up in the 2012 season by coaching the program to its first winning season in 16 years, as the Red Hawks finished 10-6-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the MWC.
In 2013, Ripon experienced back-to-back winning seasons and a second consecutive 10-win campaign, as the team went 10-7-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the MWC. That season, the Red Hawks were alive for an MWC Tournament berth until the final weekend when they were eliminated from contention in the team's final game of the season.
Schroeder took the program to new heights in 2014, as the team finished with a program-best record of 13-7 (8-2 in the MWC) and qualified for the MWC Tournament for the first time in program history, advancing to the MWC Championship game as the MWC's number two seed.
After going 7-10-1 in 2015, Schroeder led Ripon to a program-best record of 14-3-1 in 2016, as the Red Hawks were ranked as high as number four in the NCAA Division-III North Region rankings. The team finished the season with a 5-3-1 conference record, missing the MWC Tournament due to a tiebreaker for the fourth and final spot.
Schroeder came to Ripon from Plymouth High School, where he served as the head boys and girls varsity coach. In his one year at Plymouth, Schroeder led the team to a 25-2-1 record and a Division-II State Tournament Semifinal appearance. In those 28 games, Plymouth outscored their opponents 154-8, which included 21 shutouts.
Prior to his time at Plymouth, Schroeder served as an assistant coach at Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wis. for three years where he helped with recruiting and fundraising, as well as the marketing and administration of summer youth camps. Schroeder has also had coaching stints at the Plymouth Youth Soccer Club, FC Magic Soccer Club, Sheboygan South High School and Monticello (Minn.) Soccer Club.
Schroeder holds an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), while also holding a USSF National "C" License. He has also received an NSCAA Goalkeeping Special Topics Diploma.
In addition to his duties as the women's soccer coach, Schroeder is also Ripon's Coordinator of Athletic Programming and Student-Athlete Development.
Schroeder and his wife Abby currently reside in Fond du Lac, Wis. with their two children, Sullivan and Hadley.
