Willmore Center

SPORTS: Volleyball, Basketball, Swim and Dive, Indoor Track and Field

Willmore Center is the main health and wellness facility on campus and houses the athletic and exercise science departments. Named for alumna and Honorary Life Trustee, Dena G. Willmore, the Willmore Center completed a full $22-million renovation in 2017.
Located on the west side of Union Street and the west end of Thorne Street, Willmore Center houses Weiske Gymnasium and Kohler swimming pool -- named for Kermit "Doc" Weiske '50 and John M. Kohler, respectively. Weiske was Ripon's first All-Conference basketball player, earning First Team honors three times from 1948-50, before going on to become Ripon's Head Men's Basketball coach for 16 years, winning five Midwest Conference championships and compiling a career record of 203-148. Kohler is a former trustee and benefactor of the College, active in the Forward Thrust Campaign, which provided funds to build Willmore Center.
The Field House was added to the Willmore Center during its $22 million renovation in 2017. Home to Ripon's Indoor Track & Field Teams, The Field House is a 65,000-square-foot-area that features an NCAA-regulation track with pit and field events, along with four multipurpose performance courts and netting for basketball, volleyball, and tennis. The straightaway on the track is named after former Red Hawks track star Dan Sutter '01.

The Willmore Center is named in honor of Dena G. Willmore '67, who served on the Board of Trustees for 22 years and was its first female chair from 2003-09. She was elected Honorary Life Trustee in 2015. Her unwavering service and financial commitment to Ripon College has touched every aspect of the College, and her contributions are among the highest in College history. Her life exemplifies a classic liberal arts education. She was a charter member of Partners in the Legacy and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007 and the Medal of Merit in 2012. She served as chair for Ripon's historic Imagine Tomorrow campaign, and was instrumental in making The Willmore Center a reality.
