OSHKOSH, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team shot 42 percent (8-19) in the first half of Tuesday's game at UW-Oshkosh, as they entered halftime trailing by just two points. The second half was a different story however. Ripon shot 27 percent (6-22) in the final period, en route to a 54-40 loss to the Titans.
The Red Hawks (1-2) made the first basket of the game on a 3-pointer by Erin Lind. That would be Ripon's only lead of the game, as UW-Oshkosh (2-0) quickly took control, scoring the next 13 points of the contest. The Titans led by as many as 11 in the half, before Ripon made a run of their own to get back in the game. Trailing 17-6 with under eight minutes to play, Ripon outscored the Titans 15-6 to end the period, capped by a layup from Kacie Cullen to cut the lead to two at the half.
Ripon continued to keep it close early in the second half, tying the game at 28 on a layup by Lind with 15 and a half minutes remaining. After UW-Oshkosh went in front again, Ripon was able to cut the deficit to one on a layup by Jill Van Eperen with 12 minutes to play. The Red Hawks would then go cold, making just two field goals the rest of the night, allowing the Titans to end the game on a 21-8 run.
Lind finished with a game-high 18 points, to go along with five rebounds, two blocked shots and one steal. With that scoring output, Lind moves into ninth on the school's career scoring list with 974 points. Van Eperen added 12 points and four steals, while Kelly Van Berkel scored six points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds.
Heather Conroy led UW-Oshkosh in scoring with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Kuehl added seven points and a career-high 12 rebounds, while Sarah Stecker and Ashley Neustifter chipped in with 10 and seven points, respectively. The Titans shot 41 percent (21-51) in the game.
The Red Hawks will now regroup over the holiday weekend and will be back in action on Wednesday, November 28 for what will be the first conference game of the year against Lawrence University. That game will begin at 5 p.m. at Storzer Center and will be a part of Ripon's "White Out" night where fans in attendance are asked to wear white to the game.
