Ripon Squanders Halftime Lead In Loss To UW-LaCrosse

Ripon shot 44 percent (24-54) Thursday night, while holding UW-LaCrosse to 35 percent (22-63) shooting, but still lost to the Eagles, 66-56 on the first day of the Wisconsin Dells Tournament. The big difference in the game came at the free throw line, where UW-LaCrosse connected on 17-of-30 (57 percent), while Ripon made just 4-of-10 (40 percent).

The Red Hawks (3-7) took a 6-5 lead on a Jill Van Eperen jumper three and a half minutes into the game. They would hold that lead for the remainder of the half, leading by as many as 13 points. Leading by three with 10 minutes to play in the period, Ripon took control with back-to-back 3-pointers by Erin Lind. She and Van Eperen combined to score 29 of the team's 34 points in the half, as the Red Hawks took a 34-25 lead into the locker room.

The second half proved to be a different story, as Ripon was outscored 41-22 in that final period. With Ripon leading by nine with just under 14 minutes remaining, UW-LaCrosse used a 12-2 run in the next six minutes to take their first lead since the opening minutes of the game. Ripon would never regain the lead, as the Eagles ended the game on a 14-5 run.

Lind led the Red Hawks with her 15th career double-double (21 points, 11 rebounds), which also marked the sixth time she's acomplished that feat in 10 games this season. Van Eperen added 14 points on 6-of-8 shootoing, to go along with three rebounds and a team-high five assists. Brittany Johnson also chipped in with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting off the bench.

UW-LaCrosse was led by Erin Levenhagen's 19 points and 12 rebounds. Briana Radowicz added 16 points and seven steals. All but six UW-LaCrosse points came from their starting lineup.

The Red Hawks will try to rebound on Friday when they'll battle UW-Stevens Point at 7:30 p.m. That game will be played at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
