RIPON, Wis. - In a game that they never trailed, the Ripon women's basketball team defeated Beloit College 76-44 Tuesday night. The Red Hawks built a 17-point halftime lead thanks to shooting 45.2 percent (14-31) in the period, while forcing 24 Beloit turnovers in the game, which they turned into 30 points.
Ripon (3-3, 2-1 MWC) was in control from the outset, scoring the first five points of the game. Beloit (1-5, 0-3 MWC) then cut the lead to two with a 3-pointer with 17 minutes to play in the first half, but that's as close as the Buccaneers would get the rest of the night. Ripon promptly scored 12 of the game's next 14 points to take a 12-point advantage and never looked back. After a jumper by Jill Van Eperen gave the Red Hawks a 26-15 lead, with seven and a half minutes to play in the half, Ripon would lead by double digits the rest of the way.
The Red Hawks continued to pour it on in the second half, leading by as many as 33. They held Beloit to under 34 percent shooting in both halves, as the Buccaneers finished the game shooting 32.7 percent (17-52) from the field. Ripon also dominated the paint for much of the game, outscoring Beloit 38-22 in the lane and outrebounding the Buccaneers 57-22. Twenty-six of Ripon's 57 rebounds came on the offensive end.
Ripon's Jill Van Eperen and Erin Lind each recorded their second consecutive double-doubles in the game. For Van Eperen, her 21-point, 10-rebound performance marks her fourth career double-double, while Lind achieved that feat for the 13th time with 17 points and 11 rebounds. It was a night to remember for Lind, as she scored the 1,000th point of her career in the contest, making her just the eighth player in program history to accomplish that feat.
Beloit had just one player score in double figures, as Lana Wieseman led the team with 11 points in 17 minutes. Maddie Sychta added nine points and two blocked shots for the Buccaneers.
The Red Hawks will try to win two consecutive games for the first time this season when they travel to Illinois College on Saturday. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ill. and can be seen live on
