RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon College women's tennis team snapped a two-game losing streak Saturday morning, as they defeated Monmouth College 6-2 in a rain-shortened match.
The Red Hawks (3-4) won all three of their doubles matches by a combined score of 24-10. Brittany Sullivan and Katie Majerowski won at the top flight by a score of 8-6. Olivia Wetzel and Alison Thies also teamed up for an 8-3 win at number two doubles, while Ellie Hedberg and Elizabeth Ake won 8-1 at the third flight.
In singles play, Ripon won four of their five completed matches against Monmouth (1-7), while the other one was not finished due to weather. At the number one flight, Sullivan was victorious over Kristin Huffman 7-5, 6-1. Ake and Wetzel followed her lead with victories at the third and fourth flights, respectively, each winning their match by an identical 6-0, 6-1 score. Monica Schilling also picked up a victory, winning 7-5, 6-3 at number six singles.
Ripon will hope to even their season dual record at 4-4 when they host St. Norbert College on Tuesday. That match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Larson Courts in Ripon.
