RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks won their fifth consecutive game Wednesday night with a 67-42 victory at Beloit College, marking their longest win streak since the 2009-10 season. Leading by nine at halftime, Ripon put the game away in the second half, shooting 63 percent (15-24) from the field, including 80 percent (4-5) from 3-point range after halftime. Beloit's only lead of the game came with 14 minutes to play in the first half when a Lana Wieseman layup gave the Buccaneers (2-15, 1-11 MWC) a 7-6 advantage. A 3-pointer by Kacie Cullen put Ripon in the lead for good one and a half minutes later. Leading by three with four and a half minutes to play, the Red Hawks (8-9, 7-5 MWC) scored six consecutive points to give themselves some breathing room.
That breathing room would get a whole lot bigger in the second half, as Ripon began the period on a 24-6 run to take their largest lead of 27 with 10 and a half minutes remaining. Beloit would only get as close as 18 the rest of the way. Ripon held the Buccaneers to 26 percent (13-50) shooting for the game, including 18 percent (2-11) from 3-point range.
The Red Hawks were led by Jill Van Eperen's 18 points, four rebounds and three steals. The junior from Freedom, Wis. now has 55 steals this season, which moves her into a tie for eighth in school history for most steals in a single season with six games still to play. Erin Lind added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Cullen scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers, off the bench. Sia Gonyo also chipped in with nine points and game-highs of eight rebounds and four assists.
Beloit saw just one player score in double figures, as Wieseman led the Buccaneers with 17. Jenna Larsen added nine points, to go along with eight rebounds.
Ripon will go for their sixth consecutive victory on Saturday against conference-leading Cornell College (15-1, 10-1 MWC), which would be the Red Hawks' longest winning streak since the 2004-05 season. That game will begin at 1 p.m. and can be seen live on
