Ripon Volleyball Continues Winning Ways

Ripon defeated Monmouth College in three sets Saturday afternoon, giving the Red Hawks three consecutive victories and five wins in their last six matches. Ripon never trailed in the final two sets, as they disposd of the Fighting Scots 25-23, 25-16, 25-16, to record their best start to a conference season (5-1) since 2007.

The Red Hawks (13-12, 5-1 MWC) recorded at least 14 kills in all three sets, posting hitting percentages of at least .460 in each of the final two. Karlye Wehner led the way with a match-high 11 kills, while also finishing second on the team with 10 digs. Allison Barnes added 10 kills, four digs and five block assists, while Emily Gary posted nine kills, to go along with five blocks (one solo). Abbi Williamson set up the big hitters all day long, recording a match-high 37 assists, while also notching seven digs and two block assists.

Monmouth (8-13, 3-4 MWC) was led by Lorin Pedersoli's 10 kills, while Mackenzie Gillund and Karrah Kuykendall each finished with seven. Mollie Murdock recorded 31 assists to lead the Fighting Scots.

Ripon will try to continue their momentum on Friday when they'll travel to Cornell College (21-3, 7-0 MWC) to take on the conference leading Rams, who are ranked 22nd in the latest Division-III Top 25 Poll. That match will begin at 7 p.m. in Mount Vernon, Iowa and can be seen live on http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/ripon.portal#.
