Box Score
RIPON, Wis. - For 90 minutes on Saturday, Ripon's men's soccer team went toe-to-toe with one of the three remaining unbeaten teams in the Midwest Conference. Despite leading 2-1 seven minutes into the game, the Red Hawks couldn't sustain that score, losing 3-2 in a game that saw all five goals scored in the first 32 minutes.
Ripon (1-9-0, 1-3-0 MWC) came ready to play, scoring taking the first lead of the game just 41 seconds into the contest on a Penalty Kick by
Matthew Lange. Less than two minutes later, Lake Forest (6-5-0, 4-0-0 MWC) tied things up on an unassisted goal by Dylan Hartman. Ripon again took the lead in the eighth minute when
Landon Smith found
Spencer Reisbick, who scored from about 10 yards away on the left side of the box. Twelve minutes later, Hartman tied the score again with another unassisted goal on a one-on-one opportunity. That tie lasted until the 32nd minute when Lake Forest's Mahir Mameledzija scored on an assist from Ellis Rutili to take the lead for good.
Cody Messerschmidt played the entire game in goal for the Red Hawks, making 20 saves. His counterpart, Ian Taylor also played all 90 minutes, saving one shot.
Ripon won't have much time to think about the loss, as they'll be back in action again on Sunday against Beloit College. That game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon and can be seen live on
