Ripon Downs Beloit, 2-1

The Ripon men's soccer team built a two-goal lead in the second half of Sunday's game to hold on for a 2-1 victory over Beloit College.

The Red Hawks (2-9-0, 2-3-0 MWC) scored the first goal of the game in the 35th minute when Cameron Greene found the net on a header thanks to an assist from Michael Anderson. Spencer Reisbick gave Ripon a 2-0 lead in the 67th minute with the assist going to Austin Van Treeck. Beloit (0-9-1, 0-3-0 MWC) finally got on the board with a Duncan Gillis goal in the 89th minute, but it was too little, too late for the Buccaneers.

Ripon Goal Keeper Cody Messerschmidt played the entire game, making 15 saves, while Beloit's BJ Kiser also played all 90 minutes in goal, saving four shots. Beloit outshot Ripon 20-10 in the game.

The Red Hawks will try to build on this victory their next time out when they'll host Cornell College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. That game will be played at Prairie Field in Ripon and can be seen live on http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/ripon.portal#.
