Red Hawks Season Ends With Loss To Carroll

Box Score

WAUKESHA, Wis. -
Needing a win to qualify for the Midwest Conference Tournament for the first time in program history, the Ripon College women's soccer team lost to Carroll University Sunday afternoon, 2-0. Both Carroll goals came in the second half, as neither team scored in the first 56 minutes. The Pioneers outshot the Red Hawks 25-4 in the game, including 11-1 in the second period.

Carroll (10-7-1, 6-3-1 MWC) broke a scoreless tie on Ally Rotolo's second goal of the season, as she scored on a header from six yards out in the 57th minute thanks to an assist from Carly Herald. Fourteen minutes later, the Pioneers doubled that lead when Casey Weyhrich netted her seventh goal of the season on an assist from Sarah Tennant.

Ripon Goal Keeper Sidney Blodgett held her own for much of the game, recording 11 saves for the Red Hawks (10-7-1, 5-4-1 MWC) in 90 minutes of work. Her counterpart, Erica Patterson, made three saves for the Pioneers, while also playing the entire game between the posts.

The Red Hawks end the season with their second-consecutive 10-win campaign and back-to-back winning seasons after 16 consecutive years with a losing record prior to 2012. Ripon finishes the year with 36 goals scored, which is tied for seventh in program history, while allowing 30 goals, which is the sixth-fewest allowed in program history. The Red Hawks also tied a school record with seven shutouts, while ranking sixth in program history with 138 saves on the year.
