RIPON, Wis. - Edgewood College jumped on Ripon early Sunday afternoon, scoring the game's first goal just 33 seconds into the contest. Facing a 3-0 halftime deficit, Ripon could never fully recover, as they fell to the Eagles by a score of 4-1.
Edgewood's initial goal came off the foot of Kelmend Isaj on an assist by Thini Messan. In the 10th minute, the Eagles (3-2) doubled their lead when Andrew Aurit scored on Messan's second assist of the game. With another goal in the 28th minute, Edgewood held a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break.
Ripon (0-5) wasted no time gaining some momentum in the second half when
Calvin Manuel put the Red Hawks on the board in the 47th minute on an assist from
James Niescier. The Eagles would get that goal back however, as Alexander Ribeiro scored five minutes later on an assist from Aurit to cap the scoring.
Ripon's
Cameron Plantz and
Cody Messerschmidt split time in goal for the Red Hawks, combining for five saves. Edgewood Goal Keepers Matt Dammen and Chad Stivers also each played a half, combining to save four shots.
The Red Hawks will try to break into the win column on Saturday when they'll open their 2013 Midwest Conference schedule at Knox College. That game will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Galesburg, Ill.
