Ripon Narrowly Loses To Maranatha Baptist

Box Score

WATERTOWN, Wis. -
Ripon allowed two Maranatha Baptist goals in the first 13 minutes of Thursday's game and could never fully recover. Maranatha Baptist outshot the Red Hawks 20-8 on the day.

The Crusaders (1-0) got on the board first on a Timothy Rogers goal in the 12th minute, with the assist going to Wira Wama. One minute later, they doubled their lead on an unassisted goal from Phil Taylor. Ripon (0-3) would cut that lead in half in the 38th minute when Perry Poulos found Calvin Manuel for Ripon's first goal of the game.

Brian Lindquist gave Maranatha Baptist a 3-1 lead in the 68th minute. Ripon pulled within a single goal with four and a half minutes remaining in the second half when Josh Luna assisted on a Spencer Reisbick goal, but that was as close as Ripon would get the rest of the afternoon.

Ripon's Cameron Plantz played all 90 minutes in goal, saving five shots, while his counterpart, Alexander Kornivsky made three saves for the Crusaders.

The Red Hawks will again try to break into the win column on Sunday when they'll host Concordia-Chicago. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon and can be viewed live on http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/ripon.portal#.
