Red Hawks Win Three of Four Matches At Hamline Tournament

The Ripon College volleyball team surpassed the .500 mark for the first time this season on Saturday thanks to winning three of their four matches at the Hamline University Tournament. The Red Hawks started the tourney off with a 3-0 loss to St. Kate's on Friday, but followed that up with a 3-0 victory over Crown College. Ripon continued to roll on Saturday with a pair of 3-0 victories over Bethany Lutheran and Hamline.

In their first match of the Tournament, the Red Hawks (5-4) lost in straight sets, 19-25, 18-25, 21-25. In that match, Allison Barnes and Karlye Wehner led Ripon with six kills apiece. Abbi Williamson recorded a team-high 17 assists, to go along with 12 digs, while Brianne Milroy led the Red Hawks with 15 digs.

After that match, Ripon brought their 'A' game, as they wouldn't lose a set in their final three matches of the Tournament. Against Crown College on Friday, Ripon won in straight sets, 25-14, 25-13, 25-21. Barnes again led the team in kills with nine, followed by Emily Gary, who recorded seven and Wehner, who had six. Williamson's 13 assists and Milroy's 16 digs also led the team.

The Red Hawks began the second day of the tournament on Saturday with a 25-20, 25-14, 25-19 victory over Bethany Lutheran. Gary and Barnes led the team with nine kills apiece in that match, while Wehner recorded eight. Williamson added 30 assists to lead the way, while Milroy registered 11 digs. Gary also finished with a team-high seven blocks (one solo).

Ripon finished off the Tournament in style with another straight set victory, defeating the host team Hamline, 25-15, 25-22, 25-15. Barnes and Wehner each led the Red Hawks with 11 kills apiece, while Gary added seven, en route to All-Tournament Team honors. Abbi Williamson recorded 31 assists to lead the team, while Wehner added a team-high 14 digs. Milroy and Williamson each added 11 digs.

The Red Hawks will try to extend their winning streak to four matches on Wednesday in their home opener against Wisconsin Lutheran and MSOE. Those matches will begin at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively, and can be seen live on http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/ripon.portal#.
