Box Score
APPLETON, Wis. - Ripon remains in a tie for second place in the Midwest Conference standings after a 69-66 victory at Lawrence University Saturday afternoon. The game was tied at 36 after one half of play and there were four lead changes in the final four and a half minutes in regulation, but Ripon was able to make the plays they needed down the stretch, as
Ty Ketz scored the game's final four points to send the Red Hawks to victory.
The first half saw five changes, but just one lead change in the first half. Lawrence (5-6, 3-3 MWC) held the lead for the first 13 minutes, going up by as many as seven points midway through the half. Ripon (8-4, 5-2 MWC) grabbed its first lead of the contest with just over six minutes to play on a 3-pointer by
Ty Sabin. After a Lawrence 3-pointer tied things up, the Red Hawks took the lead again on a
Brad Brooks layup, only to see the score tied again as the two teams headed into halftime.
Like the first half, Lawrence jumped on the scoreboard first in the second, scoring the first four points of the period. That would be the largest lead of the half for either team, as the score would be tied five more times in the second period in the back-and-forth affair. Tied at 53, the two teams would exchange 3-pointers, followed by a layup by Ryan DePouw to give Lawrence the lead, which they would hold until a
Kyle Loughrin layup gave Ripon the lead with under one and a half minutes to play. Chris Siebert answered with a layup for Lawrence, but Ketz came up with the biggest shot of the day, connecting on a 3-pointer from the corner with 30 seconds left to give Ripon the lead for good.
Loughrin led the Red Hawks with a career-high 25 points, which included four 3-pointers. Ketz added 19 points and a career-high six rebounds, while Sabin chipped in with 12 points. Ripon shot 41 percent (24-58) from the field, including 50 percent (8-16) from 3-point range, while converting 81 percent (13-16) from the free throw line.
Lawrence was led by Siebert's 24 points, which included four 3-pointers. Tyler Mazur added 16 points off the bench, while DePouw posted nine points and seven rebounds. The Vikings shot 47 percent (27-57) from the field, 37 percent (7-19) from 3-point range and 63 percent (5-8) from the free throw line. The two teams combined for just nine turnovers.
Ripon will try to extend their current win streak to four games on Tuesday when they'll travel to conference-leading St. Norbert College (11-1, 7-0 MWC). That game will begin at 5:30 p.m. in DePere, Wis. and can be seen live on
