Everyone Gets Involved As Ripon Runs Past Grinnell

The Ripon men's basketball team defeated Grinnell College 126-99 Saturday afternoon, behind a 67 percent (46=69) shooting performance from the field that included making 71 percent (5-7) of their 3-point shots. That led to nine players cracking the scoring column, including seven in double figures and three with at least 21 points.

The game was neck-and-neck for much of the first half. With Grinnell (7-2, 3-2 MWC) leading by one with eight minutes left in the first half, Ripon (7-4, 4-2 MWC) took command thanks to a 20-6 run over the next four and a half minutes to take a 13-point advantage. Grinnell would cut it to single digits again later in the period, but a Brendan McCoy tip-in just before halftime gave the Red Hawks a 62-50 lead at the break. Ripon led by double digits for the entire second half, with their largest lead of 24 coming with six and a half minutes to play.

Kyle Loughrin led the Red Hawks with 23 points, to go along with five rebounds, two assists and four steals. Ty Sabin added 22 points, six rebounds and six assists, while McCoy chipped in with a career-high 21 points off the bench, while also recording three steals. Brad Brooks posted 15 points and eight rebounds, while Justin Leistikow recorded 13 points and six boards. Ty Ketz and David Klink each finished with 11 points. The Red Hawks cleaned the glass all night, outrebounding Grinnell 45-27 in the game.

The Pioneers were led by Patrick Maher's 19 points and eight assists. Jack Taylor was held to 28 points below his season average, as he finished with 17, while Luke Yeager and Cody Olson added 15 and 12 points, respectively.

With the victory, Ripon moves into a tie for second place in the MWC standings. They will try to build on the win next weekend when they'll travel to Lawrence University on Saturday.
