MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Red Hawks lost their ninth consecutive game Saturday, falling 2-1 at Cornell College. That marks the fifth time this season that Ripon was defeated by a single goal.
After a scoreless first half, Cornell (3-11-2, 1-7-1 MWC) struck first with a Jeremy Kaden goal in the 58th minute, thanks to an assist from Christian Wright. Six minutes later, Sam Stacy doubled Cornell's lead with his first goal of the season on an assist by Adam Westerby. Ripon (2-13-1, 0-8-0 MWC) was shut out until there were 23 seconds remaining in the second half, when
Nicholas Thillman scored on an assist from
Mebrahtu Kasa, but it was too little, too late for the Red Hawks.
Cornell Goal Keeper Shaun Boerner made eight saves in his 90 minutes of work, while Ripon's Goal Keeper minutes were split between
Cody Messerschmidt and
James Saager, who combined to save one shot.
Ripon will try to snap their current skid on Wednesday when they'll travel to St. Norbert College. That game will begin at 5 p.m. in De Pere, Wis. and can be seen live at
