RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's volleyball team brought their 'A game' Friday night in their first Midwest Conference contest of the season, defeating Grinnell College in three sets (25-11, 25-20, 25-9). The score changed hands just five times in the three sets combined, while the Red Hawks recorded a team hitting percentage of .325, which was their fourth-highest of the season. Two of the three sets ended in Ripon posting a hitting percentage of .421 or higher.
Katie Berrell led all players with 10 kills, while
Emily Gary recorded eight, to go along with a hitting percentage of .571, three digs and two blocks (one solo).
Allison Barnes added six kills, while adding a match-high three service aces and six digs.
Abbi Williamson led the Red Hawks (11-7, 1-0 MWC) in assists with 30, while
Brianne Milroy topped the team in digs with 11.
Grinnell's top performer was Claire Weidman, who recorded nine kills, which was five more than any other player on the team. Margaret Giles' 16 assists led the Pioneers (5-13, 0-1 MWC) in that category, while Lindsay Fujimoto led the team in digs with eight.
The Red Hawks will look to remain undefeated in MWC play on Saturday when they'll battle reigning conference champion Cornell College. That match will begin at 1 p.m. at Storzer Center in Ripon and can be seen live onÂ
