RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's soccer team won its third consecutive game Saturday afternoon, defeating Knox College 5-1. That gives the Red Hawks six wins in their last eight contests, as they moved into a tie for second place in the Midwest Conference standings.
Kaylee Tadych was one of the stories for the Red Hawks (7-3, 3-1 MWC), as she assisted on two of Ripon's five goals, which breaks a 17 year old school record with her 13th assist of the season. After finishing last year with 10 assists, Tadych now has 23 in her two-year Red Hawks career, which is also a new record, eclipsing the old record of 22, which was set 16 years ago.
Ripon's other main storyline in the game was the play of
Paige Birschbach, who recorded her second hat trick in the team's last five games, giving her eight goals during that span. She started the scoring on Saturday thanks to an assist by
Brandi Peltier in the 32nd minute for the first half's only goal. Birschbach added her second goal early in the second period on an assist by
Alexandra Jirik, who would quickly follow with her second goal of the year just minutes later.
Tadych delivered her record breaking assist on Birschbach's third goal of the day and 11th of the season, giving Ripon a 4-0 lead with 31 minutes remaining.
Donna Lohse netted her second goal of the day in the 81st minute on a pass from
Jessica Ochocki, before Knox finally got on the board with Kayla Brown's sixth goal of the year in the waning minutes.
Goal Keeper
Sidney Blodgett protected the net for the Red Hawks for all 90 minutes, making three saves. Her counterpart, Theresa Birzer also played the entire game for Knox (3-7, 0-3 MWC), saving 12 shots.
The Red Hawks will try to extend their winning streak to four games on Sunday when they'll host Monmouth College at 1:30 p.m. in Ripon.
