RIPON, Wis. - One day after Ripon allowed three second half goals in a loss to Knox, the Red Hawks duplicated that feat, losing 3-0 to Monmouth after the two teams played to a scoreless tie during the first half. The teams were evenly matched in the shot category, as Monmouth held an 11-7 advantage in the game.
It didn't take long into the second half for Monmouth (4-7-1, 2-1-1 MWC) to break the scoreless tie. Jake Cogan did the honors with a header that found the net off a cross by Luke Vandenberg, who was credited with the assist. Vandenberg would later double the Fighting Scots' lead on an unassisted goal in the 61st minute. Chizobam Nkemeh capped the scoring with a goal in the 71st minute with the assist going to Daniel Guzman.
Cody Messerschmidt started the game in goal for the Red Hawks (2-10-1, 0-6-0 MWC), playing into the 70th minute and making six saves.
Ripon will continue their season next weekend when they'll travel to Illinois College on Sunday. That game will begin at 11 a.m. in Jacksonville, Ill.
