Red Hawks Enter MWC Tournament Riding Four-Game Win Streak

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon sealed the number two seed in the 2014 Midwest Conference Tournament with a 2-1 win over Grinnell College Saturday afternoon. The win matches the team's longest win streak of the season at four games and gives them the most single season wins in program history (12), as well as the most conference victories (8) in program history.

The Red Hawks (12-6-0, 8-2-0 MWC) never trailed on Saturday, taking their first lead in the 24th minute on Mikayla Huesman's first goal of the season and second of her career. Paige Birschbach was credited with the assist on the play, giving her 12 on the year, which is tied for second for a single season in school history. That also gives Birschbach 40 points on the year, which is tied for the team lead and tied for fifth in school history for a single season.

Grinnell (10-7-1, 6-3-1 MWC) managed to tie the score at one in the 38th minute, which would be how the score would remain well into the second half.

Then, just as it looked like the game may be headed to overtime, Brandi Peltier, playing the last home game of her storied career, did what she has done so often during the last four years. She found the back of the net for the game-winning goal with less than five minutes left in regulation, giving her 81 career goals, which ranks second in Midwest Conference history. She was assisted by Kaylee Tadych, who extended her MWC single season assist record to 19.

Sidney Blodgett played all 90 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks, making nine saves. Her counterpart, Katy Oldach saved seven shots for Grinnell.

The Red Hawks will now get ready to play the first MWC Tournament game in program history, as they'll face Carroll University Friday at 11 a.m. in Lake Forest, Ill. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Lake Forest/Grinnell contest in the MWC Tournament Championship Game on Saturday at 2 p.m. All games in the MWC Tournament can be seen live at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
