STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Ripon dropped their second consecutive game to start the season, losing 68-42 to UW-Stevens Point in the consolation game of the Pointer Tip-Off Tournament Sunday afternoon. The Red Hawks turned the ball over 25 times, which the Pointers turned into 31 points. UW-Stevens Point also scored 26 second chance points on the day.
UW-Stevens Point (1-1) scored 10 of the game's first 13 points, but Ripon (0-2) battled back to cut the early lead to two on baskets by
Emma McDonald and
Mikayla Hartman. The Pointers then scored 10 consecutive points mid-way through the first half to take control of the contest, as they led by at least nine points for the remainder of the game. Despite an 11-point halftime deficit, the Red Hawks shot 47 percent (8-17) from the field, while UW-SP shot just 31 percent (8-26). The biggest difference came at the free throw line, where the Pointers attempted 20 shots from the charity stripe, making 15.
The Pointers led by double-digits for the majority of the second half, leading by as many as 33. Ripon converted just 27 percent (7-26) from the field, in the period, while UW-Stevens Point made 38 percent (13-34) of their field goals after halftime.
For the second consecutive game, McDonald led the Red Hawks in scoring with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, while also chipping in with a team-high six rebounds. Hartman added six points, while
Megan Jensen scored five.
UW-Stevens Point was led by Joann Wolfenberg's 11 points and eight rebounds. Kaitlyn Jacobs added 10 points and five boards, while Mickey Roland finished with nine points off the bench.
The Red Hawks will have to wait until Saturday to get back on the court, when they'll travel to Lawrence University for their first conference contest of the year. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Appleton, Wis. and can be seen live on
