RIPON, Wis. - Ripon led for just 10 seconds during Saturday's game against UW-Platteville, eventually losing to the Pioneers, 55-46. The Red Hawks were able to keep things relatively close thanks to scoring 20 points off 16 UW-Platteville turnovers.
Ripon (1-8) entered halftime trailing by eight points, despite shooting 19 percent (5-27) in the first half, while the Pioneers (8-2) converted 35 percent (9-26) of their first half shots. In the second half, UW-Platteville iced the game by connecting on 14 of their 20 free throws, after converting just one of nine shots from the foul line in the opening half. The Pioneers also improved their shooting in the second half, making 41 percent (9-22) from the field. Ripon's largest deficit came with six minutes remaining when they fell behind by 20 points, but they battled back to cut the lead to eight in the final seconds before losing by nine.
Emma McDonald led Ripon with 12 points and six rebounds, while
Maddie Koster scored nine points off the bench, while collecting four rebounds and a team-high three steals.
Megan Jensen added seven points, while
Jonalee Elliott led the team with nine rebounds (seven offensive), to go along with six points.
UW-Platteville was led by Alyssa Krajco's 12 points. Mykaela Brandt added eight points, while Stacy Clark and Keeley Schulz each scored six. Clark added a team-high seven rebounds, while Schulz also recorded five boards and a game-high four steals.
Ripon will try to break their current six-game losing streak Wednesday when they'll travel to 12th-ranked UW-Oshkosh on New Year's Eve. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Oshkosh, Wis.
