OSHKOSH, Wis. - On the final day of 2014, the Ripon women's basketball team lost to 12th-ranked UW-Oshkosh, 75-38. The Red Hawks shot 31 percent (16-51) from the field, while UW-Oshkosh converted 41 percent (21-51) of their shots. Ripon was also outrebounded 38-28, while turning the ball over 19 times.
The Red Hawks' only lead came on the game's first possession, which ended with a
McKenzie Banasik layup. That lead was short-lived, as the Titans (10-1) tied the score one minute later and took the lead on the following possession. That was the beginning of a 17-2 run that helped UW-O take a 15-point lead, en route to a 20-point advantage, en route to a 34-14 halftime lead.
In the second half, UW-Oshkosh held a lead of at least 20 points the entire period, leading by as many as 39 points in the game's final minutes. UW-Oshkosh shot 33 percent (4-12) from 3-point range in the game, while Ripon (1-9) missed all nine of their 3-point attempts. The Titans also made 29-of-35 free throws (83 percent), while Ripon went to the line eight times, making six of them.
Megan Jensen led the Red Hawks with eight points on 4-of-7 shooting, while Banasik scored six points on 3-of-7 shooting.
Miranda Gunderson added five points, while
Emma McDonald scored four points and pulled down a game-high six rebounds.
UW-Oshkosh was led by Emma Melotik, Ashley Neustifter, and Katelyn Kuehl, all of whom scored 12 points, combining to make 17-of-18 free throws. Marissa Selner added 11 points, to go along with five rebounds, which tied for the team lead. The Titans recorded 16 assists, including a game-high five from Neustifter.
