BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit shot at least 43 percent in both halves Tuesday night, while converting 48 percent (21-44) of their shots in the game, en route to a 61-50 win over Ripon.
Beloit (4-4, 3-1 MWC) never trailed, taking the first and only lead of the night on the game's first possession thanks to a Lana Wieseman jumper. After another Beloit basket,
McKenzie Banasik connected on a 3-pointer to cut the lead to one, but the Buccaneers answered with a 22-9 run which opened up a 14-point lead, the largest of the game, with five minutes left in the half. The Red Hawks (1-6, 1-3 MWC) would make things interesting with a 14-4 run to end the period, capped by another Banasik 3-pointer, to go into halftime trailing by just four points.
Ripon kept things close in the second half, cutting the lead to two on several different occasions. They couldn't get over the hump though, as Beloit opened up another double-digit lead midway through the second half. Banasik's third 3-pointer of the game cut the Buccaneers lead to eight, but that's as close as they'd get the rest of the night.
Banasik finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while
Emma McDonald also scored 11, to go along with seven rebounds (four offensive).
Jonalee Elliott added eight points and seven boards off the bench, while
Meg Ryan chipped in with seven points, six rebounds and four assists. Ripon shot 30 percent (18-60) from the field.
Beloit outscored Ripon in the paint, 18-8. The Buccaneers were led by 25 points from Wieseman. Laura Panicali added 11 points, while Nora Polaski added 10 points and 12 rebounds and Kelsey Horvath also scored 10.
Ripon will try to get back on the winning track Saturday against Illinois College. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Ripon, while fans are asked to bring a Holiday toy for donation to the Milwaukee Children's Hospital.
