RIPON, Wis. - Wednesday's game was closely contested for the first 30 minutes, as neither team led by double digits. That all changed in the final 10 minutes however, as St. Norbert used a 14-1 run in a three minute span to put the game away and hold on for the victory.
The first half saw Ripon (9-13, 9-8 MWC) take control of the game early on, as they didn't trail during the first 12 and a half minutes. The Red Hawks' largest lead came seven minutes into the game, as they scored seven consecutive points for a seven point lead. St .Norbert (18-4, 15-2 MWC) then scored seven straight points of their own and ended the half on an 11-6 run to take a 24-19 lead into halftime.
The second half saw Ripon cut the lead to three on a few different occasions, but they could never pull ahead. St. Norbert's 14-1 run put the game out of reach, as the Red Hawks never got the deficit under 10 points the rest of the night.
Ripon finished the game shooting 37 percent (17-46) from the field. They were led by 14 points from
Jill VanEperen, who also recorded five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Kacie Cullen added 11 points and four steals, while
Maddie Koster posted six points, five rebounds and three steals.
Lana Tomashek led St. Norbert with 14 points and four assists. Brianna Byrne added nine points, while Morgan Heim scored eight. The Green Knights finished the game shooting 38 percent (18-47) from the field, including 47 percent (7-15) from 3-point range.
The Red Hawks' 2013-14 season will come to a close on Saturday when they'll travel to Knox College. That game will begin at 3 p.m. in Galesburg, Ill. and can be seen live on
