Jill VanEperen scored 21 of her game-high 28 points in the second half, to help erase a nine-point halftime deficit, en route to a 96-82 win over Knox in the 2013-14 season finale. Ripon outrebounded the Prairie Fire, 59-31, as the Red Hawks grabbed 24 offensive boards and saw two players (VanEperen and
Kacie Cullen) record double-doubles and several more register career-highs.
Ripon (10-13, 10-8 MWC) got out to an early nine-point lead, but Knox (6-17, 4-14 MWC) climbed right back into the game thanks to a 13-2 run. The two teams then traded baskets before the Prairie Fire ended the half on a 16-6 run in the final six minutes of the period to take a nine-point lead into halftime.
The Red Hawks didn't lead in the second half until the nine minute mark when a
Heather Boeke basket gave the team a two-point advantage. That was the beginning of a lead that Ripon would never relinquish. The lead reached double digits on a VanEperen jumper with a minute and a half remaining and culminated with a basket by
Katie Wendorf in the final seconds to extend the lead to 17.
In addition to her 28 points, VanEperen also recorded a career-high 14 rebounds for her eighth career double-double, to go along with six assists and three steals. Cullen recorded her first career double-double with 16 points and a career-best 10 rebounds.
Marisa Loken added career-bests of 13 points and seven rebounds, while Boeke finished with a career-high of 12 points.
Chelsea Sorbo also chipped in with 10 points, while
Maddie Koster posted seven points, six rebounds and six assists. The Red Hawks finished the game shooting 88 percent (28-32) from the free throw line.
Knox was led by Jodi Marver's 23 points and nine rebounds, while Jessica Howard added 21 points on seven 3-pointers. Jamie Blue scored 13 off the bench for the Prairie Fire, who shot 65 percent (15-23) from the foul line.
