Ripon Shuts Out Rockford In Final Tune-Up Before Conference Play

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Ripon snapped a three-game losing streak Wednesday night, defeating Rockford University 3-0. The Red Hawks also outshot Rockford 15-11, including an 8-4 advantage in the first half.

The scoring started in the 31st minute when Derek Saxon netted his second goal of the season on assists from Michael Anderson and Cameron Greene. Eleven minutes later, Mherete Mherete doubled Ripon's lead with his third goal of the year on an assist from Mebrahtu Kasa. Greene capped the scoring in the second half, scoring on a Penalty Kick in the 54th minute to tie Mherete for the team lead in goals with his third of the year.

Cody Messerschmidt recorded his second shutout of the season, recording six saves in his 90 minutes in goal for the Red Hawks.

Ripon (2-4-1) will try to keep their momentum going Saturday in their conference opener at Lake Forest College. That game will begin at 9 a.m. in Lake Forest, Ill.
