Ripon Loses Two Matches On Final Day of the Red Hawks Invitational

RIPON, Wis. - On the final day of the Red Hawks Invitational Saturday, the Ripon volleyball team lost to UW-River Falls and Saint Mary's (Minn.) University in three and four sets, respectively. Ripon finished the Invitational with a 1-3 record, which was tied for fourth in the six-team field.

In their first match of the day, the Red Hawks (10-7) put up a fight before losing to UW-Superior (7-10) in straight sets, 21-25, 25-27 and 23-25. Ripon, who posted a better hitting percentage than the Yellowjackets in two of the three sets, were led by Katie Berrell's 14 kills. Emily Gary, who would be Ripon's representative on the All-Tournament Team, posted 10 kills, to go along with four digs and two block assists. Abbi Williamson led the Red Hawks in assists with 35, while Brianne Milroy led the team in digs with 13.

In the second match, Ripon gave tournament champion Saint Mary's (9-5) a battle, before falling 21-25, 25-18, 22-25, 19-25. Allison Barnes led the Red Hawks with 16 kills, to go along with 12 digs. Berrell and Gary each added 13 kills, while that duo also combined for 7 digs and four block assists. Williamson again led the team in assists (43), while adding five kills and eight digs, while Milroy led the team in digs (19).

The Red Hawks will now get ready to enter Midwest Conference play, as their next match will be against Grinnell College on October 3. That match will begin at 7 p.m. at Wyman Gymnasium in Ripon.,,
