Red Hawks Lose Heartbreaker In Double Overtime

Box Score

BELOIT, Wis. - Ripon lost for the fifth time in their last six games Sunday, falling to Beloit College 2-1 in double overtime. The Red Hawks got off a season-high 20 shots, with seven of those coming on goal.

The first half was uneventful for both teams, as they went into halftime in a scoreless tie. The Red Hawks (2-6-1, 0-2-0 MWC) didn't waste much time getting on the board first in the second half, as Perry Poulos did the honors on an assist from Corey Beecher. Ten minutes later, Beloit tied the score on a goal by Isaiah Turner-Wyatt. That's how the score would stay for the remainder of regulation.

After a scoreless first overtime period, it looked as if the game may be headed for a tie, but Beloit's Julian Baker found the back of the net midway through the second overtime period to give the Bucaneers the win.

Cody Messerschmidt recorded seven saves for the Red Hawks, while his counterpart, BJ Kiser saved six shots for Beloit (1-6-0, 1-1-0 MWC).

Ripon will play again on Saturday against Carroll University at 1 p.m. in what will be Homecoming Weekend. The Red Hawk's 1999 Midwest Conference Championship team will be honored at halftime for the 15th anniversary of their title.
