Maranatha Baptist Shuts Out Red Hawks

RIPON, Wis. - One game after scoring eight goals, the Ripon men's soccer offense was held at bay, as Maranatha Baptist defeated the Red Hawks 1-0 Saturday afternoon. Ripon was also outshot 21-7 in the game, with all of the Red Hawks shots coming in the second half.

The only goal of the game came in the 38th minute of the first half when Isaias Castillo scored on a putback after the ball was deflected. Josh Knoedler was credited with the assist on the play.

That goal saw Ripon Goal Keeper Cody Messerschmidt's scoreless streak end at 238 consecutive minutes to start the season. Messerschmidt made eight saves in the contest, while playing all 90 minutes. His counterpart, Charles Leeds saved one shot in 90 minutes of action for Maranatha Baptist (2-0-0).

Ripon (1-2-1) will try to get back on the winning track on Thursday when they'll travel to Edgewood College. That game will begin at 7 p.m. in Madison, Wis.
