Red Hawks Defeat Conference-Rival St. Norbert In Final Day of UW-Stevens Point Invitational

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - After losing 13 consecutive meetings with St. Norbert College, the Red Hawks have now beaten them in consecutive seasons and twice in their last three meetings. Ripon started the second day of the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on a positive note with a five set victory over the Green Knights, before losing to #2 UW-Stevens Point in the tournament finale.

Ripon (6-2) showed what they were made of against St. Norbert (2-5). After winning the first set 25-22, Ripon dropped the next two, 14-25, 17-25, but they were undeterred, winning the fourth set 25-23, before finishing the Green Knights off in the fifth and final frame, 15-10. Allison Barnes, who was Ripon's only representative on the All-Tournament team, led all players with a career-high 20 kills (.348 hitting pct.), to go along with 10 digs. Paige Buddenhagen and Katie Berrell added nine kills apiece, while Emily Gary added eight kills and a team-high five blocks (three solo). Abbi Williamson recorded 40 of the team's 47 assists, while Brianne Milroy led all Red Hawks with 25 digs.

The Red Hawks faced a much tougher test in their second match, which pitted them against the number two ranked team in Division-III, UW-Stevens Point (7-0). The Pointers won in straight sets, 25-11, 25-19, 25-13.,,Ripon finished the match with 23 total kills, led by eight from Berrell and seven from Gary, who also had a team-high three blocks (one solo). Williamson added 21 of the team's 22 assists, while Milroy again topped the team in digs with 15.

Ripon will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll host Marian University, which lost to the Red Hawks in four sets last weekend. Wednesday's match will begin at 7 p.m. at Storzer Center in Ripon.
