Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Ripon Can't Get Past Lake Forest

RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon women's basketball team made a season-best nine 3-pointers Tuesday night, but it was not enough, as Lake Forest pulled away for a 71-57 victory. Ripon's long-range shooting was countered by Lake Forest's 51 percent shooting from the field, as the Foresters converted 20 of their 39 shots.

Ripon's only lead of the game would come in the opening minutes on a Megan Jensen 3-pointer that gave the Red Hawks a 4-2 lead. That would be short-lived, as Lake Forest (5-9, 5-5 MWC) connected on a pair of free throws on each of their next two possessions to take a lead that they would never relinquish.

Despite falling behind by as many as 12 in the first half, Ripon (1-13, 1-8 MWC) battled back to cut the lead to a single point on another Jensen 3-pointer in the opening minutes of the second period. Lake Forest then regained control of the contest, going on a 10-1 run to regain a double-digit lead with 11 and a half minutes remaining. Emma McDonald ended that run with one of her five 3-pointers to cut it to seven, but that's as close as the Red Hawks would get the rest of the night.

McDonald finished with a career-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, which is tied for the sixth-most 3-pointers in a single game in school history. Mikayla Hartman added a career-high 10 points off the bench, while Jensen chipped in with eight points, three rebounds and three assists.

Lake Forest was led by 20 points from Michelle Ricolcol. Danielle Canulli added 19 points and six rebounds, while Brie Majkowski posted 11 points. Brittany Avonts finished with a game-high 10 rebounds, including four on the offensive end of the court.

Ripon will try to snap their 11-game losing streak on Saturday when they'll travel to Monmouth College. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Monmouth, Ill. and can be seen live at,http://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
