RIPON, Wis. - For the eighth year in a row, Ripon earned a season sweep of Lawrence University, winning 49-37 Wednesday night for their second victory over the Vikings this season. The Red Hawks protected the ball well all night, committing a season-low nine turnovers, while forcing 20 Lawrence miscues.
Lawrence (0-14, 0-10 MWC) didn't trail for the first 17 minutes, taking their largest lead of seven with seven and a half minutes remaining in the half. The Red Hawks (2-14, 2-9 MWC) then got back into the game thanks to an 8-0 run, keyed by a pair of
Emma McDonald 3-pointers, the second of which gave Ripon their first lead of the game with under three minutes left before halftime. Lawrence would grab the lead back in the final minutes, before McDonald rebounded a missed shot and scored on a putback at the buzzer, giving the Red Hawks a 17-16 lead at the half.
Ripon wouldn't trail in the second half, but Lawrence was able to tie the score at 20 with 15 minutes to play. Shortly after that, McDonald connected on her third 3-pointer of the game to give the Red Hawks the lead for good, as they would finish the game on a 29-17 run.
McDonald led the Red Hawks with 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Chelsea Moldenhauer also scored 11 points, while adding three rebounds off the bench.
Maddie Koster finished with seven points and four rebounds. The Red Hawks tied a season-high with nine 3-pointers, shooting 50 percent (6-12) from long range in the second half. They also converted all eight of their free throws, with all of them coming after halftime.
Lawrence was led by Elizabeth Arco, who scored 14 points on 7-of-9 passing, to go along with 10 rebounds. Olivia Hoesley added 12 points, while Danelle Buck finished with six points, eight rebounds, and three assists. The Vikings finished the game shooting 30 percent (3-10) from the free throw line.
