RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon women's soccer team picked up a much-needed conference victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Cornell 2-0 for their second shutout victory of the season. The Red Hawks also out-shot the Rams by a 16-9 margin.
Ripon (7-5-1, 3-3-0 MWC) didn't waste much time getting on the board, as
Alyssa Kennedy did the honors in the fourth minute, scoring her sixth goal of the year on an assist from
Danielle Senger. That would be all the scoring until the 76th minute, when the Red Hawks doubled their lead thanks to
Morgan Johnson's fifth goal of the season, with the assist going to
Paige Birschbach. In just her second season, Birschbach is now tied for sixth in school history for career points (72).
Jessica Bykowski earned the complete game shutout at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks, making seven saves on the day. Tal Neilly added nine saves for Cornell (2-10-0, 1-4-0 MWC) in her 90 minutes of work.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll travel to Concordia-Chicago. That game will begin at 2 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
