The Ripon women's tennis team played a pair of matches on Saturday, beginning the day on a positive note with a 5-4 win at Illinois College, before falling by an identical 5-4 score at Knox.
Against Illinois College (2-10, 1-8 MWC) in the first match of the day, Ripon (4-12, 1-8 MWC) ,won three of the six singles matches, while also taking two of the three doubles matches. In singles play, Lucero Pena was victorious at the number three flight, 6-2, 6-3, while Morgan Makar won at the number four flight, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Carly Wesner was also victorious at the sixth flight, winning 6-0, 6-1. In doubles play, Makar and Pena teamed up at the second flight to win 8-1, while Wesner teamed with Samantha Kiesner at the number three flight to win 8-3.
In the nightcap, Ripon won three of their six singles matches against Knox (3-13, 2-7 MWC), but won just one of their three doubles matches. Maddie VandenHouten won her number one singles match, 6-2, 6-1, while Pena and Kiesner won at the number three and five flights by scores of 6-2, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-2, respectively. Ripon's lone doubles victory came at the top flight where VandenHouten teamed up with Courtney Olson to win by a score of 8-1.
The Red Hawks will conclude their 2015 regular season on Sunday when they'll face Monmouth College. That match will begin at 9 a.m. in Monmouth, Ill.
