RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon men's soccer team's three-game winning streak came to an end Thursday with a 2-1 loss to the University of Northwestern (Minn.), who also out-shot the Red Hawks 19-8, including 13-3 during the second half.
The Red Hawks (6-6-1) controlled the game early on, getting on the scoreboard first on
Cameron Greene's fourth goal of the season in the 23rd minute, thanks to an assist by
Gary Sexson.
Ripon took a 1-0 lead into halftime and continued to lead until the 76th minute when Northwestern (5-9-1) tied things up on Ethan Hart's first goal of the year. Just as it looked like the teams may be headed to overtime, Northwestern's Matthew McCann came through with a header off of a corner kick by Micah Mogler to give the Eagles the win.
Jimmy Amedeo made eight saves for the Red Hawks, while playing all 90 minutes at Goal Keeper. His counterpart, Turner Main saved two shots in his 90 minutes of work.
The Red Hawks will try to put this loss behind them this weekend when they'll host the Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon.
