RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon men's soccer team lost a hard fought game in double overtime Saturday afternoon, falling 3-2 to Illinois Institute of Technology. The teams were very evenly matched, as Illinois Tech out-shot Ripon, 18-16, with the two teams' shot totals even at 16 through the first overtime period.
Illinois Tech (7-7-1) didn't waste much time getting on the board, scoring the game's first goal just 23 seconds into the contest on Niehuns Antunes' third goal of the season. Ripon matched that five minutes later when
Paul Karls scored his team-leading ninth goal of the year.
Ripon (6-7-1) took their first lead of the game in the 57th minute when
Calvin Manuel scored his first of the season. That lead would last all of four minutes, as the score would be tied up again in the 61st minute on Niehuns Antunes' second goal of the season.
After neither team scored in the first 10-minute overtime period, Illinois Tech secured the victory with a goal by Emmaneuel Zambrano, his first of the season, less than two minutes into the second overtime.
Jimmy Amedeo played the entire game in the net for the Red Hawks, making eight saves, while Illinois Tech saw Anastasios Manolis and Chris Beluska combine for five saves.
