Turnovers Play Key Role In Ripon's Loss At Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. - For the first time this season, Ripon has lost consecutive games. The Red Hawks lost 15-6 at Carroll University Saturday afternoon, despite outgaining their opponent in total offense (356-336) for the first time this season. Ripon turned the ball over five times in the game, which Carroll turned into nine of their 15 points.

Carroll (4-3, 2-1 MWC North) scored all the points during the game's first three quarters, beginning with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Burlingame to Kevin Jennings in the final seconds of the first quarter. After the extra point was failed, the Pioneers would double their lead on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Burlingame to Bennett Kothe to give Carroll a 12-0 halftime lead.

After a scoreless third quarter, Ripon (4-3, 1-2 MWC North) scored their first points mid-way through the fourth quarter when Stephen Covalt found the end zone from two yards out, cutting Carroll's lead to six. That is as close as they would get however, as the Pioneers tacked on a late field goal to put the game out of reach.

Ripon gained 216 yards on the ground, led by Connor Greenwald, who finished with 95 yards on 23 carries (4.1 ypc). Covalt added 30 yards rushing, while passing for 140. Nathan Silloway led all receivers with seven catches for 93 yards.

Kothe led Carroll with 123 yards on 22 carries, while adding two catches for 77 yards. Burlingame added 218 passing yards, while Jennings led the Pioneers with six catches for 85 yards. Defensively, Carroll intercepted three passes, with two by Ty Zimmerman.

The Red Hawks will try to rebound next weekend when they'll return home to play Beloit College. That game will begin Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ingalls Field in Ripon.
