RIPON, Wis. – Ripon's men's soccer team ended a five-game losing streak with a 6-2 win over Eureka College Thursday afternoon. The Red Hawks dominated much of the game, out-shooting the Red Devils by a 29-13 margin, including 16-5 in the first half.
Freshman
Paul Karls got things going for Ripon (4-5-1) in the 12th minute, scoring his fifth goal of the season on an assist by fellow first-year player,
Brenden Raasch. One and a half minutes later, Karls found the net again, this time with the assist going to
Cameron Greene.
Logan Wright added his third goal of the year in the 26th minute on another assist from Raasch, while
Steven Lanphier scored for the first time this season just before halftime.
After leading 4-0 at the break, Eureka (5-5-0) made a comeback with headers from Brady Thomas and James Bowen. That comeback would not be completed however, as Ripon put the game out of reach with a pair of goals in the final minutes, with
Grant Grywalsky and
Wasani Davis doing the honors.
Jimmy Amedeo and
James Saager each played one half in the net, combining to save six shots. Eureka Goal Keeper Daniel Johnson made 14 saves on the day in his 90 minutes of action.
Ripon will be in action again on Saturday, when they'll resume conference play against Cornell College. That game will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon and will double as the team's annual "Play For the Cure" game in which they will raise awareness and money for cancer and cancer research.
