MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - After beginning the conference season with a 3-0 record for the first time this century, the Ripon volleyball team's winning streak came to an end Friday night with a three-set loss to defending conference champion Cornell College. The Red Hawks lost the first set 25-21, before losing the next two by identical 25-23 scores.
Ripon (6-12, 3-1 MWC) recorded 10 kills in each set. They were led by
Allison Barnes' 10 kills, while
Katie Berrell and
Kat Kulas posted six and five kills, respectively.
Abbi Williamson led the Red Hawks in assists, with 28, while
Stacie Klika registered a team-high 12 digs.
Cornell (6-13, 3-1 MWC) was led by Diamond Boyd's 14 kills, while Lauren Ahart recorded 11. Katherine Devlin led the Rams with 22 assists. Cornell held the blocking advantage, 10-4.
The loss drops Ripon into a second place tie with Cornell in the conference standings. The Red Hawks will try to get back on the winning track on Saturday at Grinnell College. That match will begin at 1 p.m. in Grinnell, Iowa and can be seen live atÂ
