Ripon's Season Ends In MWC Semifinals

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - One of Ripon's most successful volleyball seasons in school history came to an end Friday, as the Red Hawks lost a four-set match to St. Norbert College in the semi-finals of the Midwest Conference Tournament. Ripon, which finished the regular season with a program-best conference record of 9-1, dropped the first set 25-19, before winning the second, 25-21. The Red Hawks then lost the pivotal third set by a score of 26-24, before dropping the fourth and deciding set, 25-21.

The match featured 14 ties and five lead changes, with St. Norbert (14-17) holding the advantage in hitting percentage .222-.197. The Green Knights recorded at least 13 kills in all four sets, while Ripon (12-13) posted that many kills in all but the fourth frame.

Ripon was led by Katie Berrell's 14 kills. Allison Barnes added 13 kills, seven digs, two service aces, and two block assists, finishing her career tied for sixth in school history in career kills (875). Paige Buddenhagen posted nine kills in Friday's match, while 2015 MWC Player of the Year Abbi Williamson chipped in with a match-high 42 assists, to go along with a team-high 17 digs. Four-time All-Conference performer Emily Gary finished her final collegiate match with seven kills, finishing her distinguished career ranking fifth in school history for career kills (1,077).

St. Norbert was led by Halie Ferry's 20 kills and 12 digs. Kristina Herman added 17 kills, 12 digs, and two service aces for the Green Knights, while Hannah Johnshoy posted five block assists. St. Norbert recorded nine total team blocks to Ripon's five.
