Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Ripon's Hot Shooting Keys Victory Over Cornell

RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon men's basketball team defeated Cornell College 67-52 Saturday in a game that saw the Red Hawks lead for the final 39 and a half minutes of the 40 minute contest. The Red Hawks shot 43 percent (23-53) from the field, including 36 percent (9-25) from 3-point range.

Cornell's only lead of the day came on a pair of free throws on the game's opening possession. That was answered by a three-point play by Jordan Stiede on Ripon's first possession, giving the Red Hawks the lead for the remainder of the afternoon. Ripon took a 39-18 lead into halftime thanks to their long-range shooting, as the Red Hawks made as many 3-pointers in the first half (7) as Cornell made field goals. Stiede and Isaac Masters each connected on two 3-pointers in the period, which saw the Red Hawks lead by double digits during the last seven and a half minutes.

After leading by 21 at intermission, Ripon (3-2, 2-1 MWC) never trailed by less than 12 in the second half. The Red Hawks shot 41 percent (9-22) from the field in the second half, with Masters again connecting on a pair of 3-pointers.

Ty Sabin led Ripon in scoring for the fourth consecutive game with 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting, to go along with six rebounds. Masters added a career-high 14 points, while Stiede scored 11. The Red Hawks turned the ball over just nine times, while turning 16 Cornell turnovers into 18 points.

Cornell (2-3, 1-2 MWC) was led by Corey Davis' 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Craig Engle added 10 points, while Grant Anderson recorded eight points and eight rebounds.

Ripon will be in action again on Tuesday when they'll host Beloit College at 5:30 p.m. in Ripon.
