Red Hawks Swept In First Conference Games of the Season

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Ripon's bats fell silent Wednesday afternoon, as they lost a pair of games to Carroll University in what was the first conference action for each squad. The Red Hawks managed just one hit in the two games combined, losing the first game 10-1 in five innings, before falling 8-0 in five frames as Carroll freshman Baylea Meredith tossed a no-hitter.

In the day's first game, Carroll scored early and often, beginning with five runs in the bottom of the first. They opened up the scoring with an RBI single, while later adding a two-run double and two-run single. The Pioneers scored three more runs the following inning on two more doubles, while plating two more in the third when they scored runs on a double and a single.

Ripon's lone run came in the final inning, aided by three Carroll fielding errors. Tene Robinson recorded the Red Hawks' lone hit, while Haylea Hoskins drove in their only run, which was scored by Celine Diedrick.

In the nightcap, Carroll again got on the board first, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. They added another run the following inning on an RBI single, while scoring three more times in the third. The Pioneers also scored twice in the fourth and once more in the fifth. Meredith's no-hitter consisted of two walks and two strikeouts, while getting 10 ground ball outs and two fly outs.

The Red Hawks will now try to regroup as they turn their sights to a doubleheader at St. Norbert College on Tuesday. The first game of that twinbill will begin at 3 p.m. with LiveStats available at,http://www.snc.edu/athletics/teamfiles/livestats/xlive.htm.
